I’ve recently purchased a pair of Thinx period panties. I’ve always been intrigued by them and wondered just how they worked. I was super skeptical and was slightly grossed out by it. Were we supposed to just sit in our period blood all day? How was the blood not going to leak through? Just how does it work?
I was flipping through social media and I said fuck it. I’ll order a pair. So order I did! I went to the Thinx website and ordered a pair. First of all, there’s tons of styles of underwear to choose from. I picked a pair of brief styled underwear simply because well it seemed like a safe choice for a first timer, although I’m sure any other style would’ve worked out just fine! The day after I ordered them, they were shipped to me and appeared in my mailbox nearly a week later. Talk about fast (also considering I ordered them on a Friday)!
Apparently, they can hold up to four tampons worth of blood (which is a lot in my opinion). You def will get your money’s worth out of them. They’re machine washable and reusable! Just an fyi if you get them, wash them in cold water and hang them dry. If you want to put them in the dryer, tumble dry them on low.
Just how do they work? There’s some material that feels like a pad when you put them on. There’s four layers in the padding. The first layer sucks up the wetness of the blood. The next layer fights odor so you won’t deal with any horrible smell from wearing the underwear all day. The third layer is a super absorbent material so that nothing leaks through. The final layer prevents leaks from even happening, which definitely works like a charm!
If you’re super concerned about any blood leaking through, of course you can use whatever method you use for your period in conjunction with the underwear but you should be good with just wearing the underwear. My flow is usually really heavy for the first few days of my period and I just wore only the underwear and I was jus fine for the rest of the day. I put them on as soon as I felt cramps and went to the bathroom to check if it (my period) was on (sorry for the tmi) and sure enough, I was starting my period.
I ordered a size small and when I first got them in the mail, it looked like it was way too big. I actually tried them on (over the underwear I was wearing of course) and sure enough, they fit nice and snug! So if you’re ordering them, they are true to size. If you’re worried that you ordered the wrong size and try them on to find that they are actually the wrong size, you have 60 days to exchange them, so no need to fret!
