Hey y’all!
I’m coming at you with a small tribute to my favorite women from the Harry Potter books/movies. This list is in no particular order at all. These are just some of my favorite characters from my favorite franchise. I love how J.K. Rowling had such strong female characters in all the books. Growing up and having some strong female leads can do something to a young girl. She has someone to look up to.
As you may or mat not know, I’m a potterhead. I’m a Hufflepuff. My patronus is a cat. My favorite character period is Neville Longbottom. When I was growing up, I wasn’t allowed to read the books nor watch the movies. As I’ve mentioned before, I was raised in the truth (Jehovah’s Witness) and anything having to do with witchcraft is forbidden. So when I went away to school, I dove all in. Now personally, my favorite female character is Luna Lovegood. As you will see, this list is in no particular order and its just my opinion, so if you have a favorite female character that’s not listed, feel free to post a tribute to her.
Molly Weasley
I love Molly. Like Harry, my mother died when I was young so I would’ve loved to have someone like Molly in my life (No shade to my grandma and aunt who had a hand in raising me. Theres just nothing like a mother’s love). She was a kind woman who took care of people. She was tough as nails when needed be and was tender with her care. When I think of Molly Weasley, I think of love. She is love personified. She was running a whole household and kicking ass and taking names. She was member of the Order of the Phoenix. She was instrumental to the fight when Voldermort and his crew was coming for Hogwarts. Hell, she killed Bellatrix LeStrange, one of the toughest and baddest bitches of all time. She is just love in a cup and was so warm. She would make Harry feel like one of the family with her treats and her homemade gifts and welcoming home. She was there for the Order for anything that was needed. Everyone should have a Molly Weasley in their life.
Nymphadora Tonks
She’s from my house. Not gonna lie. At first, I was like why include her? But then it occurred to me that she was fucking awesome. Like she can change her appearance. How badass is that? She was also a member of the Order of the Phoenix. She could change her appearance, especially her hair when she was upset. She was bold and fearless. She made sure Harry was safe when he went to Sirius Black’s house and when they were on their way to the burrow. She fought with her hubby Lupin and they both gave their life fighting Voldermort and his Death Eaters. She was with Ginny, ready to fight Bellatrix LeStrange when she made the burrow engulf in flames. Since she’s a down ass chick, she is one you want on your side.
Hermione Granger
While she’s actually not my favorite, Hermoine is a badass. She’s smart, brave, and gifted. While I personally feel like she should’ve been placed in Ravenclaw, the sorting hat saw her courage and determination and she was placed in Gryffindor. There’s a joke that she’s been there to like save the day in all the movies (tbh she was the voice of reasoning). She threw herself in danger whenever she felt it in her to defend who and what she loved, which if thats not badass then I don’t know what it. I mean, it was her idea to start Dumbledore’s Army when they weren’t learning anything in their Defense Against the Dark Arts class. She knew magic beyond any witch her age (also, she’s muggle born which is another reason if why she’s a badass). Even when people looked down on her, it didn’t matter. At the end of the day, she was going to do what was right in the end.
Bellatrix LeStrange
Some may be confused as to why I included her on my list. Honestly, she is a badass. She’s someone you love to hate. Even though she was an evil bitch, she’s more tolerable than Umbridge. She was Voldermort’s ride or die. She was insane and I mean that with love (I mean she was in Azkaban for many years which can drive anyone loopy). She killed her cousin Sirius Black (whom she wasn’t too fond of because of their different ideologies), she caused the burrow to engulf in flames, she tortured Hermoine because she stole the sword of Gryffindor out of her safe. She fought alongside Voldermort and was a fierce fighter until the very end when Molly killed her for trying to kill Ginny. Like I said, even though she was evil as fuck, you had to admire her for her dedication.
Luna Loved
I love her. Like other than Neville, she’s my favorite character. In fact, I had some people call me her because they thought she was strange and weird. Of course, they were just looking on the outer surface and judging from what she “appeared” to be in their eyes. While she was quite unique, she always chose to look on the bright side of things. For example, when the girls in her dormitory moved all the things and scattered them around the castle, she chose to look on the bright side and said that it was all in good fun. She always knows what to say to a friend when he or she is down. She was kind to the grey lady (her house ghost) and through that they were able to destroy one of Voldermort’s horcruxes. She even wore a lion head during a Quidditch match in support of Ron, a Gryffindor. She is independent, creative, and open-minded. She’s everyone’s friend. I just love her.
Minerva McGonagall
I’ll be real, Professor McGonangall scares me. Like she’s so scary. She means business and she does care deeply for her students. She’s just very by the book when it comes to things. She was apart of the Order of the Phoenix, which was vital when they were defeating the dark wizards. No matter what troubles came their way, she remained a powerful force and not one to be reckoned with. When she thought that Snape betrayed Dumbledore, she fought with him as he left the castle. When she learned that Voldermort and his crew were heading to the school to basically destroy it, she, Molly, and the other teacher did protective spells and chants to protect the students and the school. She filled the shoes of Dumbledore when she became Headmistress of Hogwarts after his untimely death. She was there for Professor Trelawney when that nasty woman Umbridge fired her. She was firm but she was fair.
Ginny Weasley
Whenever I think of Ginny, I think of a down ass bitch. She will fight for you and alongside you. You know that when shit goes down, she has your back. After that scare that she had in her first year at Hogwarts (remember? The Tom Riddle’s diary incident in Chamber of Secrets?). She’s the baby sister of the Weasley clan. She wasn’t afraid to stand up to Death Eaters. In fact, she and Tonks went after Bellatrix when she caused their house to engulf into flames. She wasn’t afraid to date who she wanted (*coughs* Harry). She blasted a Death Eater when she did the Reducto curse. She fought Bellatrix again when the battle was at her school. She also got Dumbledore’s Army together again when Harry, Ron, and Hermoine left. Again, if you want a down ass bitch on your side, Ginny is your girl.
As you can see, these are the women in Harry Potter that I love and admire so much. If you like them or want to learn more of the badass women in Harry Potter, There’s a book called Calling All Witches that I saw in Target that I just had to have for my classroom library. Get it for yourself, a little girl in your life, or for your own classroom. If you can’t find it in stores, try here. Its a fantastic book that shows love to all of the women in the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
Who are some of your favorite character’s from Harry Potter?
XOXO,
