Hey y’all!
Happy Labor Day! I’m home off because well its a holiday but its also because of the storm, Hurricane Dorian. It’s a slow moving storm and it’s pretty strong but now…its a waiting game. Its still hitting the Bahamas as we speak and is slowly making it’s way up north. We here in Orlando will not experience the full storm, but we’re on the outer bands so we’ll defiantly feel the affects of the hurricane (that’s my brief weather update).
Anyway, on Friday my roomie/good friend Karina and I were watching Netflix and the idea to have a brunch randomly came to me. I told her “I want brunch. We should totally do breakfast or brunch” and she was like “yeah lets do it!”. So on Saturday while she was at work, I was busy buying all the arsenals we’d need for our brunch.
Now, you may ask: Why are you telling me about a brunch? Well two things: first, it was something great to take our mind off of the storm and to celebrate life and two, I did it on a budget and want to show you how to as well.
Celebrating our new life in Orlando is something we haven’t really done officially. When we ,moved in, we did take a celebratory shot but that was about it. We finished moving our things in and the next morning, my roommate was gone for almost three weeks! By the time she came back, it was my first week of teaching and she was out of town again (this time for almost a week). This was the first time she’d been home consistently and so, we needed to celebrate!
As for the fact that I did this whole thing on a budget, that’s just the icing on the cake. It was so affordable! Surprisingly affordable at that! First of all, you have to know where to look. For example, I got some blueberries at Walmart and they were $2.99 a pint and I got a dozen eggs for less than $2 (So already thats like $5)! Then I went to Publix and bought the champagne on sale for $6, the syrup for $5, strawberries and blackberries for about $3 each, and turkey sausage for about $4 and they had a buy one get one free special on Eggo products (saving me $3)! I got all of that for under $30! You heard me!
The day of was great. The sun was shining. There was a light breeze. We had Maroon 5’s album Songs About Jane playing in the background. It was great! After I finished cooking, and sat down for our meal, we toasted for life! It was a great start of our day! I was filled with gratitude to be in the place I was in and I’m sure she felt the same way.
Take time to toast to life. Slow down and do something nice for yourself. Relish in the gratitude for life. You know, people down in the Bahamas are going through some hard times right now. Alot have lost their homes (btw if you want to help out and donate money or any items, check out this link). Others have lost their lives. Be grateful for what you have. What are some of your favorite ways of showing gratitude? I’d love to hear about them in the comments!
XOXO,
LolaDasher
